Bio-Terrain Assessment

What is the Biological Terrain?

The science of Biological Terrain involves the in-depth study of the cells in the human body and the nutrient-filled, mobile, interstitial environment that bathes and nourishes those cells.  Biological Terrain clinicians and practitioners closely monitor this cellular environment in order to gather important information about an individual’s cellular health.  They understand and appreciate the vital role that a healthy biological terrain environment plays in establishing and supporting an individual’s overall state of health, vitality and well-being.

Through the precise monitoring of the body’s Biological Terrain, valuable information may be obtained that may help individuals address underlying imbalances that may be contributing to cellular stress and lack of vitality.  With this valuable information, proper nutrition, stress management, and detoxification of specific toxins and poisons can be implemented.  These measures, in turn, may help reestablish and support healthy cellular functioning.

The Functions of the Biological Terrain

The Biological Terrain or interstitial cellular environment has many vital functions.  Its primary responsibility is to deliver nutrients to every cell in the body.  These substances include electrolytes, enzymes, vitamins, minerals, hormones and water.  The trillions of cells in the body depend upon the Biological Terrain to supply the specific levels of nutrients and hydration that it needs to maintain life and vitality.

A second important function of the Biological Terrain is to transport energy-rich substances throughout the body for the production of energy or ATP.  Many critical actions and reactions that take place in the body require ATP,  therefore, the transport of these vital, fuel-building chemicals is essential for life.

A third function of the Biological Terrain involves the movement of minerals from the cells.  Because nearly every cellular reaction requires the proper levels of minerals, this function, likewise, is essential to maintaining life and vitality not only within the cells but throughout the entire body.

Life would not be possible without the many critical, life-sustaining functions of the Biological Terrain.  Balance and health within this fluid environment create life and balance within all of the cells in the body.  Precise monitoring of the Biological Terrain, therefore, is critical to understanding the underlying factors that may create unhealthy imbalances as well as vibrant health within the cells.

How is the Biological Terrain Assessed?

Monitoring the Biological Terrain involves assessing the biological fluids of urine and saliva.  These fluids have specific characteristics and contain certain levels of elements that are released by the cells into the Biological Terrain environment for transport to various locations and destinations throughout the body.  Some of these elements enter the blood.  Other substances enter the lymphatic fluid, saliva and urine.  Measurement of specific factors within these fluids, therefore, may offer a biochemical window in the underlying functioning of the cells.

The biological fluids present in the biological terrain environment are monitored by a device called the BTA S-100.  Following a 12-hour fast, small amounts of urine and saliva are placed into this computerized device.  Within minutes, the BTA S-100 provides data regarding the pH, redox and resistivity values of the Biological Terrain environment.  With this valuable information, proper nutrition, stress management and detoxification measures can be explored and implemented to support healthy cellular functioning.  Regular BTA S-100 monitoring may serve to evaluate the biochemical changes, effectiveness or ineffectiveness of recommended nutritional and lifestyle modification programs.  This chemical data offers feedback that enables Biological Terrain practitioners and their clients to choose the specific dietary programs that will help them to achieve their goals of health, vitality and longevity.

The BTA Test

12 - Hour Fasting Guidelines

  • Fast for 12 hours prior to your test.  Complete your dinner the evening prior to the test no later than 5:00- 6:00 PM.

  • Avoid scheduling your test within 24 hours of airplane travel.

  • Women:  Also avoid scheduling your test during your menstrual period and the first week following it.

  • After dinner, brush your teeth and refrain from eating or drinking anything until after your test.  This includes chewing gum, throat lozenges and candy.

  • Take any prescribed medications as directed with only a small amount of water.

  • Refrain from using any toothpaste, mouthwashes or mouth rinses both at bedtime and the morning of your test.  Also avoid the use of any lipstick or make-up around your mouth and lips.  Such substances can change the chemistry of the mouth and the saliva.

  • If you wear dentures of orthodontic appliances, refrain from wearing these during the 12-hour fasting period until after your saliva specimen has been obtained.  Denture adhesives, plastics and metals can change the chemistry of the saliva.

  • Refrain from sexual activity during your fasting period.  This can cause false elevated readings in your urine values.

  • On the morning of your test, obtain a sample of your first-morning urine.  Try to obtain a mid-stream specimen (urinate a small amount first, then obtain the remaining urine in your specimen cup).  If you did not receive your specimen container, thoroughly wash a glass jar & lid with hot water.  Avoid the use of harsh soap or bleach as these can create residues that can alter your urine results.  Urine can be collected at 4:00 AM or later.

Your test results will be discussed with you during a scheduled consultation period.
